D. Johnson, three major champs headline Hero field

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson will be joined by three of the four major winners later this year when they headline the field for the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

Johnson will be joined by U.S. Open champ Brooks Koepka, Open winner Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, who added the FedExCup to his PGA Championship title. The field will also include Hideki Matsuyama, who won last year’s tournament at Albany Golf Club by two shots.

Invites for the 18-man field annually include the defending champ plus the four current major winners, with the remaining spots filled via the Official World Golf Ranking and two spots reserved for special exemptions. Masters champ Sergio Garcia will not participate, nor will 2016 runner-up Henrik Stenson.

But it will still be a stacked field in what for many will be the final competitive start of 2017. Other confirmed participants include Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose, Alex Noren, Marc Leishman, Tommy Fleetwood, Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, Charley Hoffman and Kevin Kisner.

The final two spots in the Nov. 30-Dec. 3 event will be released at a later date.

The tournament is annually hosted by Tiger Woods, and last year it was the site of his first competitive start in more than 15 months. But Woods has not played since February, underwent lumbar fusion surgery in April and is not expected to participate this year.
