DeChambeau up to 12th in U.S. Ryder Cup race

After his third strong finish in less than two months, Bryson DeChambeau is officially lurking in the race to qualify automatically for this year’s Ryder Cup.

DeChambeau birdied the 72nd hole to finish alone in fourth place at the Wells Fargo Championship. It’s his fourth top-5 finish since February, and his third in his last four starts including a runner-up finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a T-3 finish at the RBC Heritage.

As a result, DeChambeau jumped from 15th to 12th in the latest U.S. Ryder Cup standings, even though he received no points for his win at the John Deere Classic in July.

The top six American names stayed the same this week, with Phil Mickelson bumping Brooks Koepka to the bubble. The top eight players after the PGA Championship in August will qualify automatically, with captain Jim Furyk adding four picks. Here’s a look at the latest standings:

1. Patrick Reed

2. Justin Thomas

3. Dustin Johnson

4. Jordan Spieth

5. Bubba Watson

6. Rickie Fowler

7. Phil Mickelson

8. Brooks Koepka

9. Matt Kuchar

10. Brian Harman

11. Kevin Kisner

12. Bryson DeChambeau

There wasn’t much movement on the European side, where the top four from the European Points list and World Points list in August will all qualify automatically, joined by four picks from captain Thomas Bjorn. Here’s a look at where things stand:

European Points

1. Tyrrell Hatton

2. Justin Rose

3. Jon Rahm

4. Ross Fisher

5. Matthew Fitzpatrick

World Points

1. Rory McIlroy

2. Tommy Fleetwood

3. Sergio Garcia

4. Alex Noren

5. Ian Poulter
