Glover shoots 1-over 71 day after injuring knee

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Lucas Glover arrived at Glen Oaks three hours before his tee time and went straight to the PGA Tour fitness trailer to continue treatment on his right knee, which he injured on Saturday hitting a shot from the 18th fairway.

Although Glover struggled to walk on Saturday following the injury, which was diagnosed as a slight strain of the patellar tendon, he said he had no problems on Sunday.

“I got here real early this morning and they located where it hurt and taped it and put a brace to eliminate that. I had no problem swinging a golf club,” said Glover, who closed with a 1-over 71. “I wish I could blame my knee for my putting, but I can’t.”

As evidence of Glover’s ability to play on his injured knee, he hit the same number of fairways he did the first three rounds (10) and was only slightly shorter off the tee.

“I’m shocked, honestly,” he said. “If it was this leg [left], I don’t think I could have played because it hurts when it’s straight.”

Glover said he has a corporate outing scheduled for Monday in the area – he will be riding in a golf cart, not playing – and will stay in New England prior to next week’s Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston, which doesn’t begin until Friday.

“From yesterday to today it’s a completely different set of circumstances mentally. I was worried,” said Glover, who was projected to remain at 55th on the playoff points list.
