TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 Driver Review – The TaylorMade Burner Superfast 2.0 driver not only features a change in head colour to white, but also several new technical features to create what TaylorMade say is their lightest and longest range of woods to date. The Burner Superfast 2.0 driver features a new head design that is faster through the air due to improved aerodynamics.

Compared to the original Burner Superfast driver, the crown is more rounded and a little taller at the front, resulting in smoother air flow. The back of the head is lower and slightly further back to move the centre of gravity back and down to promote a higher launch. The new shape also means that the crown can be made in a single piece and the wall reduced to just 0.6mm thick in places, which is 40% less than similar drivers in the market.
To create more speed the Superfast 2.0 comes with a 45 gram Matrix X-con 4.8 shaft that is not only lighter, but longer at 46.5 inches. The total weight of the club is just 279 grams and this combination of head and shaft creates more clubhead speed and therefore more distance, albeit possibly at the expense of some accuracy.
The big visual change of course is the white colour of Burner Superfast head and the matt white finish also looks bigger and reduces glare or ‘hot spots’ where you get the reflection of the sun if you are lucky enough to play in it regularly.
At address the Burner Superfast 2.0 driver looked quite triangular, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we liked it. The white head and black face was certainly very easy to line up at address. The face is a little more closed than the R11 driver to give the ball flight a little draw bias, or to make it go straight for all you faders out there.
The club did feel very light and it took a while to get used to the longer shaft, but once we did the distance was very impressive. The feel and forgiveness at impact was very good even if the sound was a little dull due to the shape and size of the head.
The Burner Superfast 2.0 driver is available in 9 and a half, 10 and a half or 13 degree models and is great fun and well worth checking out. However on the models we tested the paint on the back of the sole of the club started to wear off so look after them.
Better players can join in too as the Burner Superfast 2.0 driver is also available in a TP version which has a 1 inch shorter shaft, a 1 degree open face and a fixed toe weight to stop the clubhead turning over at impact to create a neutral or fade bias for better players.
We really liked the TP version as the head shape was a little more rounded and it sat a little more square at address. The shorter shaft was more manageable and we think better players should consider this even over the R11 driver.
