Koepka inches closer to DJ at world No. 1

Heading into the Dell Technologies Championship, the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking is essentially a toss-up.

Fresh off his second major title of the year, Brooks Koepka tied for eighth at The Northern Trust. That allowed him to make slight gains on world No. 1 Dustin Johnson, who tied for 11th to barely keep Koepka from summiting the OWGR for the first time in his career. As the PGA Tour heads to TPC Boston, Johnson’s point average is 10.0967 while Koepka is now at 10.0049.

Johnson has been No. 1 since February 2017, outside of a four-week stretch this summer when he was supplanted by Justin Thomas.

Updated Official World Golf Ranking

Bryson DeChambeau’s four-shot win at Ridgewood Country Club took him to the top of the FedEx race, while it also moved him up nine spots to a career-best 12th in the world rankings. Tony Finau, who finished second behind DeChambeau, jumped from 30th to 18th in the latest rankings.

Billy Horschel went from 92nd to 66th with a T-3 finish, while T-5 results moved Adam Scott from 44th to 38th, Aaron Wise from 68th to 52nd and Ryan Palmer from 138th to 98th.

With Johnson, Koepka and Thomas still holding the top three spots, Justin Rose and Jon Rahm round out the top five. Francesco Molinari and Rory McIlroy remain Nos. 6 and 7, while Rickie Fowler edged past Jordan Spieth at No. 8. Spieth dropped to No. 9, his lowest ranking since March 2015, with Jason Day rounding out the top 10.

After a T-40 finish in New Jersey, Tiger Woods remained No. 26.
