Mickelson, Garcia 2 back of unlikely leader Sharma

Shubhankar Sharma saved par from 10 feet on the final hole in Mexico City on Saturday, preserving a two-shot lead over a foursome of players that includes Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia, in the WGC-Mexico Championshp. Here’s how things stand going into the final round at Chapultepec Golf Club:

Leaderboard: Shubhankar Sharma (-13), Tyrell Hatton (-11), Phil Mickelson (-11), Sergio Garcia (-11), Rafa Cabrera Bello (-11)

What it means: Sharma, 21, is looking for his third win in four months, having won the Joburg Open in December and the Maybank Championship in February. On Saturday he shot a 1-under 70, saving par from a bunker on the final hole.

Round of the day: Justin Thomas broke the course record with a 9-under 62. Starting on the back nine, he made an eagle, eight birdies and a lone bogey, and had only 23 putts.

Best of the rest: Tyrrell Hatton shot a 7-under 64, doing most of his damage on the front nine, with five birdies there and only two on the back.

Biggest disappointment: Louis Oosthuizen was right in the mix after 36 holes, but plummeted 27 spots after a 76 on Saturday.

Shot of the day: Ross Fisher aced the 157-yard third hole with a 9-iron.

Quote of the day: “I think in a previous life I probably was a bumblebee.” – Mickelson, commenting on a fan’s sign that had Phil’s face on the body of a cartoon bumblebee.

Biggest storyline going into Sunday: Sharma is trying to win a WGC title in his first PGA Tour start. Mickelson is looking for career win No. 43 and his first since he won The Open in 2013. Thomas is looking for a second consecutive win, having taken the Honda Classic last week in a playoff with Luke List.
