Ping G25 Fairway Wood – The Ping G25 fairway wood sees a couple of visual changes from the previous G20 model. Firstly and most obviously is the finish which is a matt charcoal colour that is darker than the previous silver finish, but not as dark as the matt black of the Anser range. This looks good and gives a high quality impression for those who like a sleek look.

The other visual change is the head size which is a little smaller than the G20 fairway. It is still a generous head size, but a little shorter from heel to toe. It does sit very well at address and the usual Ping low profile gives you the feeling of being able to sweep the ball away very easily.
Compared to the previous model, the G25 fairway has a thinner face and more weight lower and further back to increase ball speed and certainly it did seem to go as well as the G20. You can see the screw weight in the back of the sole section, which again is a visual change that some will like more than others.
This design also increases the forgiveness of the club and if you have problems getting your fairways going straight then this is the club for you. It was much harder than the i20 fairway to shape shots as the G25 just wanted to bang it straight. The sound was a little duller than the G20 but the trajectory was possible a little more penetrating thanks to that marginal increase in ball speed.
Combined with the better player looks, this is an ideal club for mid-handicappers or those who want a ‘put-it-in-the-fairway’ club from the tee. The smaller head shape did affect the sound a little and we probably preferred the sound and head size of the G20 fairway, but that is our preference as there was very little to choose between the 2 models but at least now you have the choice of styles.
