Reed moves to top of U.S. Ryder Cup race

Patrick Reed’s Masters victory brought with it many spoils, one of which was a spot on this year’s U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Reed started the week at No. 9 in the points race, just outside the cutoff for automatic qualification. But after holding on for a one-shot win at Augusta National, he vaulted to No. 1 in the updated rankings and assured that he’ll earn one of eight automatic spots for Paris.

Reed wasn’t the only player to make a big move, as Rickie Fowler’s runner-up finish bumped him from 10th to sixth in the latest standings.

Here’s a look at the updated U.S. points list, with the top eight players after the PGA Championship in August qualifying automatically and accompanied by four picks from captain Jim Furyk:

1. Patrick Reed

2. Justin Thomas

3. Dustin Johnson

4. Jordan Spieth

5. Bubba Watson

6. Rickie Fowler

7. Brooks Koepka

8. Phil Mickelson

9. Matt Kuchar

10. Brian Harman

11. Kevin Kisner

28. Tiger Woods

And here’s a look at the standings for Team Europe, which will take the top four players from both the European Points and World Points lists in August as well as four picks from captain Thomas Bjorn:

European Points

1. Tyrrell Hatton

2. Justin Rose

3. Jon Rahm
