Trump congratulates Reed on 'great and courageous' win

President Donald Trump has never been shy about his affinity for golf, so it was safe to assume he was watching, or at least keeping tabs on the year’s first major at Augusta National.

And he confirmed that hunch after the Masters ended, jumping on Twitter to congratulate Patrick Reed on his first major championship.

“Congratulations to Patrick Reed on his great and courageous MASTERS win!” he tweeted. “When Patrick had his amazing win at Doral 5 years ago, people saw his great talent, and a bright future ahead. Now he is the Masters Champion!’

Perhaps the person who most saw Reed’s “great talent” and “bright future” in the wake of Reed’s win at the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship, was Reed himself.

Shortly after Trump presented the trophy to Reed at Trump National Doral, the then-23-year-old famously proclaimed himself a “one of the top five players in the world,” despite being ranked just barely in the top 20.

Trump has played with plenty of PGA Tour players since being elected president. It will be interesting to see if a round with the reigning Masters champ is on the horizon.
