Well-rested Stenson feeling almost 100 percent after elbow injury

NASSAU, Bahamas – Henrik Stenson might be the most-rested player in the Hero World Challenge field.

The Swede is playing just his second event since the Ryder Cup and has only played four events, counting the matches in Paris, since the beginning of September.

That limited schedule was prompted by an injury to his left elbow that forced him to miss five weeks and withdraw from the first FedExCup Playoffs stop.

“I’m not 100 percent in the gym. I still have to be a bit careful with certain movements and how I stress it during workouts and so on. But day-to-day stuff is good and golf is good, which is the main thing,” said Stenson, who moved into a share of the lead with a 66 on Friday.

“I just hope that it’s going to heal out and disappear so we can feel like we’re 100 percent going into next season.”

Stenson appeared to be at 100 percent on Day 2 at Albany, opening his round with birdies at Nos. 1, 3, 5 and 9. He moved into a share of the top spot alongside Jon Rahm at 10 under par with three consecutive birdies starting at the 14th hole.

“I guess I should be a little bit fresher than some of my colleagues who call me from Hong Kong or somewhere else at this point,” Stenson said. “I’m feeling all right. We just keep on going; try to make as many birdies as we can.”
