Woods makes site visit to Bahamas short course

Progress is being made on the latest addition to the portfolio of Tiger Woods, the golf course architect.

Woods is busy working as an assistant captain for Steve Stricker’s Presidents Cup squad this week at Liberty National, but he retweeted a video of a recent site visit he made to Jack’s Bay, a private club that is being built on the island of Eleuthra in the Bahamas:

It’s another tie to the Bahamas for Woods, who annually holds his Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club near Nassau. While there are plans to add an 18-hole course at some point, the first priority for his TGR Design group is a 10-hole short course called “The Playgrounds” which is expected to open in spring 2018.

Woods’ first U.S. design, Bluejack National outside Houston, also features a 10-hole short course of the same name. Each hole is expected to measure between 70-165 yards and according to Woods will continue his design strategy of creating multiple shot options while minimizing the number of golf balls the average player loses in a round.

“We have the opportunity to design the short course on arguably the best piece of property there is in this area, and maybe even around the world,” Woods said. “You can see the water, feel the water. Have a little bit of salt spray. I mean, it’s going to be absolutely phenomenal.”

Other current TGR Design projects include Payne’s Valley near the Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri, Woods’ first foray into creating a public golf course, as well as Pacific Links National Golf Club in China and Trump World Golf Club in Dubai.
