Zach Johnson splitting from longtime caddie Damon Green

Another of the PGA Tour’s longest-running, player-caddie partnerships has reached its end.

Damon Green revealed to The Caddie Network that his nearly 15-year partnership with Zach Johnson is over.

“Zach said, ‘I think we need to take a break. It’s not a firing. We’re too good friends for that.’” Green said. “I just think he didn’t want to say the word ‘fire.’ I was shocked.”

Green left Scott Hoch to team up with Johnson during his rookie season in 2004 and helped guide him to his two major victories at the 2007 Masters and 2015 Open Championship.

Per TCN: “In 387 starts together, Johnson had 79 top-10s, 175 top-25s and only missed the cut in 67 of 387 events. Johnson’s earnings of $44.7 million rank 11th all-time.”

“He’s probably had a Hall of Fame career and I had a front-row seat to it,” Green said. “It was great to watch.”

According to the TCN report, Johnson is expected to hire Brett Waldman, who has been working with Charley Hoffman.

Green said in the interview that he is unsure about his future, as part of him is looking forward to increased time with his family, and part of him still has the desire to loop.

With any luck, we’ll be seeing Green’s famed “chicken dance” back on Tour soon.
