After Further Review: Poulter pumped for Ryder Cup

Each week, GolfChannel.com takes a look back at the week in golf. Here’s what’s weighing on our writers’ minds.

On Ian Poulter adding his name to an already-loaded European Ryder Cup roster …

American golf fans should expect to see their worst enemy this fall in Paris.

Minutes after defeating Beau Hossler in a playoff to win the Houston Open, Ian Poulter ran through the list of perks that came with his first worldwide victory since 2012. Yes, there was the last-minute trip to the Masters and the two-year PGA Tour exemption, but he also hoped his win sent a message to Europe’s Ryder Cup captain.

“Tell Thomas Bjorn, ‘Hey, I’m here,’” Poulter said. “My game’s in shape.”

Poulter won in Houston using the same putter that he flashed at Medinah six years ago, and after missing the last edition of the Ryder Cup while nursing a foot injury he’d clearly love nothing more than another crack at the Americans at Le Golf National. There’s no shortage of contenders for the spots on Team Europe, but it won’t take much more form for Poulter to lock up one of them. – Will Gray

On the emergence of Pernilla Lindberg at the ANA Inspiration …

Win or lose the ANA Inspiration Monday, Pernilla Lindberg won’t be looked at as the same player. She is earning a ton of respect trying to win the year’s first major in a wire-to-wire effort. She stared down 2018 LPGA Co-Player of the Year Sung Hyun Park in the final group on Saturday and did the same to Hall of Famer Inbee Park over four playoff holes Sunday. If Lindberg doesn’t make her first LPGA victory a major on Monday, the 31-year-old is bound to win something soon. She has taken her game to another level this past week. – Randall Mell
