Phil 'wouldn't be surprised' if Tiger wins to 1-up him

Phil Mickelson ended a near-five-year winless drought last week in winning the WGC-Mexico Championship. Could Tiger Woods break out of his own slump one week later at the Valspar Championship?

Mickelson thinks so.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he went out and won this weekend to one-up me again,” Mickelson said Thursday on Dan Patrick’s radio show.

“We’ve gotten pretty close over the last couple of years, with the team events and his great leadership that he’s had as a vice captain at the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup. … We’ve been pulling hard for each other.”

Mickelson, 47, goes on to talk about how he and Woods, 42, whose last victory came in 2013, still believe they can compete on a regular basis against the current generation on Tour. Mickelson also discusses how Woods helped him become the Hall of Fame player he is today. Check out the clip below:

Patrick also asked Mickelson to weigh in on the distance debate. Mickelson stated that he understood both sides of the argument and didn’t lean strongly on either side of the fence.
