PALM HARBOR, Fla. – There are no shortage of moving parts for Brandt Snedeker this week at the Valspar Championship.
At 74th in the world rankings, he likely needs a top-5 finish to move into the top 64 with Monday’s deadline looming for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Beyond that, he needs to either win a Tour event – he’s currently scheduled to play the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Shell Houston Open in the next few weeks – or crack the top 50 in the world to earn an invitation to the Masters.
Not that any of that math interests him.
“I don’t pay attention to it. I know I need to play well,” said Snedeker, who was tied for second place after shooting a 3-under 68.

On this front, ignorance is bliss for Snedeker. It was a valuable lesson he learned at the 2009 BMW Championship when he needed to bogey the 72nd hole to earn a spot in the Tour Championship. He was informed of his plight while playing the last hole at Cog Hill.
“I ended up four-putting for triple bogey to miss by a shot,” Snedeker said. “If I didn’t know I would have probably made a bogey and it wouldn’t have been a big deal. But it got in my mind and I wasn’t strong enough to push it out and do what I needed to do. Ever since then, I’m just going to play as well as I can.”
